Frayed tempers are forgotten and everyone is frivolously fixated on sea treasures we find in the sand and stopped short by the sudden feeling of being fancy free.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWe leave all our bickering when we head for the beach. We are no longer agitated, stressed, longing for the next. We allow ourselves to be towed out into the now. Kookaburras cackle to each other, the sound eerie and echoing in the breaks between breezes that seem to brush us briefly before disappearing into the cracks between dawn and daylight. Ghost crabs march determinedly towards destinations we can’t discern until our dog romps gleefully through their ranks, sending them scurrying in search of safety like little white waves, their translucent bodies forming and reforming gleaming mirages of water that disappear just as fast as they reform in regiments and march on. We search the beach for treasures as the sun rises over the water and by 5:45 it is well and truly bright and the children pad home a little more slowly for breakfast with hands full of twigs, leaves and shells and feet, hair and sometimes swimmers full of sand.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eWhen we said we wanted to live close to sea, so many people said we were wrong to expose our albino children to so much sun. Favourite timeless moments when the clouds feel closer and my perspective on my problems shifts with the turning tide and the disappearing beach and the changing light in the sky. Problems seem to disappear into puddles that become pools as the sea chases us back up the beach as it comes to kiss the shore. We return home heavy with sticky sand that wouldn’t brush off our legs but somehow lighter, too, absolved of the worries of the world and reminded of what really matters - the tide towing out what was nagging at us so that when next we find our feet in the sand and our minds cloudy with cumulus chaos, we find again the open arms of the sea and the ever-welcoming, never-ending capacity the water has to shift our perspective anew. \u003c\/p\u003e"}

One of my friends and I would spend Saturday afternoon hours on the trampoline - jumping, picnicking, napping, cloud-watching and mainly, lying on our backs, staring into the endless abyss of the setting sky above us and wondering who we would become and what our lives had in store. It was exciting and calming all at once - the heavens seeming to breathe us in as we breathed the increasingly cool evening air and the ever-enticing, familiar, drooping, overgrown camillia on one side of the trampoline, obscuring our view to the west and protecting us from the last heat of the day. Even though we had a holiday season over Christmas that was magical. Even though I should have been refreshed. I was not. I put it off. I flatly refused to go to the newly painted studio for reasons I can’t explain. Yet I come to think that my boys experience life in bold colours that don’t exist in my paint palette. They experience life with an intensity that frequently leaves me breathless. I’m often Disney-movie-teary\/eyed-at-the\/happy-ending in awe of their resilience and perseverance…and also I feel sad when things I didn’t stop to think would be hard…are inevitably hard.
