Her second boy was starting in the same class as my eldest. She too had 3 boys.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA few days later she smiled at me and said something heartwarming once more and I just looked at her, bewildered, and asked why she was so kind to me?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMothers of 3 boys, she said. Her second boy was starting in the same class as my eldest. She too had 3 boys.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA few days later she smiled at me and said something heartwarming once more and I just looked at her, bewildered, and asked why she was so kind to me?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMothers of 3 boys, she said. It’s only a few steps from the front door of the studio so it doesn’t make sense that we don’t go more often, to be honest.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis morning I had my coffee in one hand and the other arm wrapped about myself as best I could because the air was that pleasant sort of whispy-bitey that turns up about this time of year. Fleeting chills that recede with the tide into golden dawns and warm days. The sand was icy underfoot compared to the relative warmth of the still-cold sea and we listened to our own footsteps and the water waving goodbye to the beach in the stillness of the almost-dawn.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe sand, in various stages of wet\/dry\/damp plays out the predawn colour with bold, kaleidoscopic designs that make it seem impossible to ignore intelligent design and I do my best to memorise the shapes and shades and colours to transfer them to canvas later…\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe came back after about 20 minutes. Long enough for the air to have caressed our faces and form that strange salty crusty, creaky feeling on my skin and hair and long enough for the water to have seeped almost up to the knees of my pyjamas pants.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe washed our feet in the bathtub in the studio where I usually let paint brushes soak and some of us with four paws found the experience of running them under the tap fascinating and taxing in equal measure. It’s only a few steps from the front door of the studio so it doesn’t make sense that we don’t go more often, to be honest.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis morning I had my coffee in one hand and the other arm wrapped about myself as best I could because the air was that pleasant sort of whispy-bitey that turns up about this time of year. Fleeting chills that recede with the tide into golden dawns and warm days. The sand was icy underfoot compared to the relative warmth of the still-cold sea and we listened to our own footsteps and the water waving goodbye to the beach in the stillness of the almost-dawn.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe sand, in various stages of wet\/dry\/damp plays out the predawn colour with bold, kaleidoscopic designs that make it seem impossible to ignore intelligent design and I do my best to memorise the shapes and shades and colours to transfer them to canvas later…\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe came back after about 20 minutes. Long enough for the air to have caressed our faces and form that strange salty crusty, creaky feeling on my skin and hair and long enough for the water to have seeped almost up to the knees of my pyjamas pants.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe washed our feet in the bathtub in the studio where I usually let paint brushes soak and some of us with four paws found the experience of running them under the tap fascinating and taxing in equal measure. I got sniffed and snuffled at in vague disgust until I towelled her dry - a kind of massage that seemed to make the whole ordeal rather palatable after all.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd now we both gaze over at the beach and wonder when we will go again.\u003c\/p\u003e"}

Please allow up to 3 weeks for custom framing before your piece is ready to be posted.\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt has been a while since I painted a tribute to my grandmother…but my childhood memories play out most often through the eucalyptus haze of her kitchen. Let me explain…\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWho do you miss most? Is it not just them but a special time with them? A time when they made everything magic? My French grandmother, Adele (Adelaide) was the youngest of 14 children. She was French but grew up on a farm in Morocco (so many French families migrated there for land and sums from the French government at the start of the 20th century.) Her own mother buried two babies but remained a steadfast stoic, caring for her children, the farm, the farm dog. (Oh how I adored stories of that dog - like the time it got rabies (in French ‘la rage’ literally - the rage!) and they kept it in a pit and threw food to it so they didn’t have to shoot it (hard to get a good farm dog and too dangerous not to have one in the wilds outside Mazagan - modern day El Jadida.) Adele was a celebrated potter, author and artist as well as the most incredible teacher and conservationist. An eco warrior who knew about kefir and kombucha before they were cool, she grew all her own food and believed it was the best medicine. She was a keen billiards player and an absolute pocket rocket who could make anyone love papaya by preparing it hundreds of different ways. Perhaps my favourite days were those when we would tend to the chickens and the kitchen garden and then haul branches of eucalyptus leaves to dry upside down in bunches around the kitchen. The leaves would turn all sorts of amazing colours over the next few days and the smell was enchanting. The happiest moments of my childhood appear to me through the enticing, overwhelming haze of eucalyptus in my French grandmother’s kitchen. Let me explain…\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWho do you miss most? Is it not just them but a special time with them? A time when they made everything magic? My French grandmother, Adele (Adelaide) was the youngest of 14 children. She was French but grew up on a farm in Morocco (so many French families migrated there for land and sums from the French government at the start of the 20th century.) Her own mother buried two babies but remained a steadfast stoic, caring for her children, the farm, the farm dog. (Oh how I adored stories of that dog - like the time it got rabies (in French ‘la rage’ literally - the rage!) and they kept it in a pit and threw food to it so they didn’t have to shoot it (hard to get a good farm dog and too dangerous not to have one in the wilds outside Mazagan - modern day El Jadida.) Adele was a celebrated potter, author and artist as well as the most incredible teacher and conservationist. An eco warrior who knew about kefir and kombucha before they were cool, she grew all her own food and believed it was the best medicine. She was a keen billiards player and an absolute pocket rocket who could make anyone love papaya by preparing it hundreds of different ways. Perhaps my favourite days were those when we would tend to the chickens and the kitchen garden and then haul branches of eucalyptus leaves to dry upside down in bunches around the kitchen. The leaves would turn all sorts of amazing colours over the next few days and the smell was enchanting. The happiest moments of my childhood appear to me through the enticing, overwhelming haze of eucalyptus in my French grandmother’s kitchen. My grandmother never aged, her gardening clothes covered in colourful hand-painted mosaics to cover stamen stains from the garden and a flower carefully perched over one ear were her only adornments most days. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eMy grandparents were unusual in that most of their friends lived by the sea.
