Some days you wake up and you just know something wonderful is going to happen. Today was that day. Seamus stood in the doorway of the studio and told me he loved this piece. That it made sense to him. That I was ‘getting good at this painting thing.’ For a farmer who never learnt to ride and for a man who generally doesn’t care for art (even mine) this was a groundbreaking statement.
Like lots of girls I went through a horse-mad phase as a teenager. I worked with a group who would rescue and rehabilitate failed race horses and retrain them as trail horses for tourists to traipse the bush on. There were so many I loved dearly and think of fondly, still: King, Speedy, Trigger, Tara…but the boss of all the flighty thoroughbreds was this tough, cheeky, stocky quarter horse called Maverick and he was certainly that by name and by nature. A piebald barely-more-than-a-pony type with enchanting eyes and a cunning ability to pick pockets for apples, carrots, tissues, keys…but I think he was the only horse that never sent me flying (as flighty racehorses often do when they are learning to tolerate a normal saddle and a rider not wielding a whip.) I painted Maverick’s kind face from memory and I remembered the kinship I felt with those horses, the tranquil days running routines of caring for them, the restorative nature of hard physical work and fresh air, the peace to be found on the fire trails through the bush and the way the days seemed slow and steady and fast heady all at once. A horse is a very precious first love.
For all the girls who loved horses, for those that still do. For the riders, the dreamers of horse-ownership, the pony club people and anyone that has ever known that sweet kinship with one of these gentle giants.

Artwork information
Fine art reproductions (prints) are printed on the very best archival cotton rag or archival stretched canvas as chosen by you by a small family firm in Brisbane. All of my cotton paper prints are inclusive of a 1cm white border and fit straight into standard frames or are easily custom-framed without losing any of the image, and the stretched canvas prints and originals can be put straight on the wall as they are ready to hang.
Our canvas prints come with a mirrored edge for a wrapped look or a plain edge if the background colour of the artwork is a block colour.
As with all new arrivals, we’d love to see you celebrate it properly. We suggest popping some champagne and taking a picture once it’s hanging on your wall.
We’d love to see your celebrations. You can tag us on Instagram @thenewdevine or send your snaps to us by replying to your order email.
Our favourite store-bought frames can be found on framing guide, and more framing information can be found on our FAQ page. Or, as with any question, please feel free to get in touch so we can help you perfect a room with your new art.
Shipping - We post on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Australian Standard Shipping is Free or you can choose express for $10. International flat rate shipping is $25. We post most orders on the following Tuesday or Friday, however there are some exceptions:
A1 and A0 artworks are printed to order as are all stretched canvas artworks. Please allow an extra 5-10 business days for printing in addition to standard Australia Post delivery estimates. We often have things ready MUCH sooner but sometimes, our printer is overwhelmed with our orders so please be patient if your new art takes a little longer to arrive. We promise it will be worth it.
Original Artworks: We very carefully varnish originals and pack them incredibly well once they are sold. Seamus is in charge of all of that and he’s meticulous - he used to work on gas rigs so when it comes to safety and attention to detail? He doesn’t compromise. It can sometimes take him a whole day to pack an original depending on the size with his unique system so you can imagine if we sell a couple of originals all at once he gets very busy! An extra couple of days for careful packing is absolutely worth it for a safe delivery of your art, though. Expect a week or so between ordering your original and it being posted. I promise it will be worth it.
Copyright and reproductions
Purchase of any The New Devine original artwork or art product (including reproductions) does not entitle the purchaser to make further copies—the copyright remains with the artist.
Framing
Please note all prints are sold unframed.
Images above are examples only and have been included to give you a squiz at how beautiful the work looks when framed.
We produce our prints to fit standard store-bought frames but we do recommend professional framing to improve the longevity and quality of your piece.
