My brother and sister in law. Our best friends. We have just two nights left before they leave and we don’t see them again for 6 months. 7 years of us coming and going from each other’s lives have taught me this: In these final days we have to actively, consciously, carefully care for each other. The temptation is to draw distant, to become introspective; to think about what has to happen next - what we each have to go back to once the holiday is over. Instead of operating as one unit we see threads pulled and edges frayed as we each face our individual responsibilities looming and we weave in and out of the present with pressing glimpses of the future. The future where we aren’t all together every day. The temptation is to pull away from each other, to preserve ourselves and prepare, to let little quirks usually passed off with a laugh suddenly spoil things as we find ourselves irritated and increasingly upset. It helps to remember that we aren’t really irritated with each other but with the situation. The stress of the soon-to-be sharp separation does strange things to us. We take turns ignoring it, denying it or feeling vague apathy and contempt. So in these last days we have to choose each other. We have to choose to draw close to each other. You see, it isn’t usually a choice we have to consciously make because in this complicit, intimate, deeply held kinship we share it is usually an effortless ‘all-in’ for all of us. In these final days we have to choose each other and to nurse each other carefully through. We have to be kinder, gentler, joke more carefully, apologise quickly, notice the good more. There is so much good in our awesome foursome - that’s why we feel so keenly aware of the heartbreak to come when we have to say goodbye for another 6 months. It’s the pain we pay for the privilege of loving people so well and being loved so well.
This Australian art print is for admirers of Australian birds - this kookaburra and galah are cuddled up and content (perfect for truly any room in the house) but mainly, it is for anyone who feels grateful for the unconditional love of friends and family.

Artwork information
Fine art reproductions (prints) are printed on the very best archival cotton rag or archival stretched canvas as chosen by you by a small family firm in Brisbane. All of my cotton paper prints are inclusive of a 1cm white border and fit straight into standard frames or are easily custom-framed without losing any of the image, and the stretched canvas prints and originals can be put straight on the wall as they are ready to hang.
Our canvas prints come with a mirrored edge for a wrapped look or a plain edge if the background colour of the artwork is a block colour.
As with all new arrivals, we’d love to see you celebrate it properly. We suggest popping some champagne and taking a picture once it’s hanging on your wall.
We’d love to see your celebrations. You can tag us on Instagram @thenewdevine or send your snaps to us by replying to your order email.
Our favourite store-bought frames can be found on framing guide, and more framing information can be found on our FAQ page. Or, as with any question, please feel free to get in touch so we can help you perfect a room with your new art.
Shipping - We post on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Australian Standard Shipping is Free or you can choose express for $10. International flat rate shipping is $25. We post most orders on the following Tuesday or Friday, however there are some exceptions:
A1 and A0 artworks are printed to order as are all stretched canvas artworks. Please allow an extra 5-10 business days for printing in addition to standard Australia Post delivery estimates. We often have things ready MUCH sooner but sometimes, our printer is overwhelmed with our orders so please be patient if your new art takes a little longer to arrive. We promise it will be worth it.
Original Artworks: We very carefully varnish originals and pack them incredibly well once they are sold. Seamus is in charge of all of that and he’s meticulous - he used to work on gas rigs so when it comes to safety and attention to detail? He doesn’t compromise. It can sometimes take him a whole day to pack an original depending on the size with his unique system so you can imagine if we sell a couple of originals all at once he gets very busy! An extra couple of days for careful packing is absolutely worth it for a safe delivery of your art, though. Expect a week or so between ordering your original and it being posted. I promise it will be worth it.
Copyright and reproductions
Purchase of any The New Devine original artwork or art product (including reproductions) does not entitle the purchaser to make further copies—the copyright remains with the artist.
Framing
Please note all prints are sold unframed.
Images above are examples only and have been included to give you a squiz at how beautiful the work looks when framed.
We produce our prints to fit standard store-bought frames but we do recommend professional framing to improve the longevity and quality of your piece.
