Her second boy was starting in the same class as my eldest. She too had 3 boys.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA few days later she smiled at me and said something heartwarming once more and I just looked at her, bewildered, and asked why she was so kind to me?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMothers of 3 boys, she said. We just recognise each other.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGuaranteed entry to heaven, I agreed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJust like that, with our 3 boys each and our decades of endless driving to activities ahead of us and our guaranteed entry to heaven (that part I can’t find a theological basis for but I hope it’s true)…we were instantly friends. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe don’t talk often because life is fast-paced and the wild ones we raise are so much to contend with some days. It’s only a few steps from the front door of the studio so it doesn’t make sense that we don’t go more often, to be honest.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis morning I had my coffee in one hand and the other arm wrapped about myself as best I could because the air was that pleasant sort of whispy-bitey that turns up about this time of year. Fleeting chills that recede with the tide into golden dawns and warm days. The sand was icy underfoot compared to the relative warmth of the still-cold sea and we listened to our own footsteps and the water waving goodbye to the beach in the stillness of the almost-dawn.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe sand, in various stages of wet\/dry\/damp plays out the predawn colour with bold, kaleidoscopic designs that make it seem impossible to ignore intelligent design and I do my best to memorise the shapes and shades and colours to transfer them to canvas later…\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe came back after about 20 minutes. Long enough for the air to have caressed our faces and form that strange salty crusty, creaky feeling on my skin and hair and long enough for the water to have seeped almost up to the knees of my pyjamas pants.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe washed our feet in the bathtub in the studio where I usually let paint brushes soak and some of us with four paws found the experience of running them under the tap fascinating and taxing in equal measure. It’s only a few steps from the front door of the studio so it doesn’t make sense that we don’t go more often, to be honest.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis morning I had my coffee in one hand and the other arm wrapped about myself as best I could because the air was that pleasant sort of whispy-bitey that turns up about this time of year. Fleeting chills that recede with the tide into golden dawns and warm days. The sand was icy underfoot compared to the relative warmth of the still-cold sea and we listened to our own footsteps and the water waving goodbye to the beach in the stillness of the almost-dawn.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe sand, in various stages of wet\/dry\/damp plays out the predawn colour with bold, kaleidoscopic designs that make it seem impossible to ignore intelligent design and I do my best to memorise the shapes and shades and colours to transfer them to canvas later…\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe came back after about 20 minutes. Long enough for the air to have caressed our faces and form that strange salty crusty, creaky feeling on my skin and hair and long enough for the water to have seeped almost up to the knees of my pyjamas pants.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe washed our feet in the bathtub in the studio where I usually let paint brushes soak and some of us with four paws found the experience of running them under the tap fascinating and taxing in equal measure. Yet I come to think that my boys experience life in bold colours that don’t exist in my paint palette. They experience life with an intensity that frequently leaves me breathless. I’m often Disney-movie-teary\/eyed-at-the\/happy-ending in awe of their resilience and perseverance…and also I feel sad when things I didn’t stop to think would be hard…are inevitably hard.
