My husband comes from an Irish farming family who can trace their ownership/tenancy of their farm back to the 1600s. They genuinely feel that they belong to that ground. They don’t own it, rather, it owns them.

It is different from our own First Nations and their commitment, love and respect for Country…but it is also similar in a way. This sense of belonging, of inherent value in the land, of immense gratitude and a powerful, convicting sense of home…

So, having run out of new canvases at home and with a delivery months away, I created this piece as a study in preparation for a complex project I have coming up and I painted over an existing piece featuring clay pots. I feel this piece returns those pots to the earth - a natural life cycle of the clay pulled from the earth, being born into something beautiful by our hands and then returning to the ground…only changed, not lost or wasted….a mirror for our lives. There are glimpses of the pots in the ground as you study the piece but I think the texture and history of this painting just serves to breathe life into the work as it is now.

My French grandparents, artists, never wasted anything. My grandmother often painted over canvases to create new art for her home when she felt she needed a change and my grandfather would smash imperfect pottery they took out of the kiln to make mosaics that then covered garden pots, recycled tables…anything that needed sprucing up, up cycling to continue to be beautiful in a new way. Nothing was wasted.

That’s this work - sacred ground, renewing life, returning home.

Fine art reproductions (prints) are printed on the very best archival cotton rag or archival stretched canvas as chosen by you by a small family firm in Brisbane.

As with all new arrivals, we’d love to see you celebrate it properly. We suggest popping some champagne and taking a picture once it’s hanging on your wall.

We’d love to see your celebrations. You can tag us on Instagram @thenewdevine or send your snaps to us by replying to your order email.

More info on framing (including our favourite store-bought frames) in our Shipping and T&Cs section available in the footer menu and on the blog. Or, as with any question, please feel free to get in touch so we can help you perfect a room with your new art.

Shipping

Free shipping worldwide (yay!). Whilst we aim to post most orders within 48 hours on business days (because weekends...you know...are a thing) there are a few exceptions...

A1 and A0 artworks are printed to order as are all stretched canvas artworks. Please allow an extra 5-10 business days for printing in addition to standard Australia Post delivery estimates. We often have things ready MUCH sooner but sometimes, our printer is overwhelmed with our orders so please be patient if your new art takes a little longer to arrive. We promise it will be worth it.

Original Artworks: We very carefully varnish originals and pack them incredibly well once they are sold. Seamus is in charge of all of that and he’s meticulous - he used to work on gas rigs so when it comes to safety and attention to detail? He doesn’t compromise. It can sometimes take him a whole day to pack an original depending on the size with his unique system so you can imagine if we sell a couple of originals all at once he gets very busy! An extra couple of days for careful packing is absolutely worth it for a safe delivery of your art, though. Expect a week or so between ordering your original and it being posted. I promise it will be worth it.

Copyright and reproductions

Purchase of any The New Devine original artwork or art product (including reproductions) does not entitle the purchaser to make further copies—the copyright remains with the artist.

Framing

Please note all prints are sold unframed.

Images above are examples only and have been included to give you a squiz at how beautiful the work looks when framed.

We produce our prints to fit standard store-bought frames but we do recommend professional framing to improve the longevity and quality of your piece.
