When we were on our beach holiday this week, my 4 year old found a YouTube clip of Moana’s ‘You’re Welcome’ (hilarious, catchy, ear-wormy song - go look it up if you don’t know it…or maybe don’t…because you’ll be singing it all year.)
If you’re wondering what a 4 year old is doing on YouTube, I’ll tell you happily. YouTube has so much amazing stuff for kids and in the last 6 months we’ve spent an hour in the evenings as a family on our bed. Us, our three boys, an unlikely assortment of toys, screens, books, card games, notebooks…Everyone generally immersed in their own quiet activity but everyone together on our sometimes-regrettably-small double bed. We call this family routine, quite inventively, Quiet Time. The boys ask for it and we love it, exhausted introverts that we are.

I’ve been encouraging Shiloh to play on the iPad in that time because, as he is legally blind, the school is providing him with a super fancy one for prep so that he can participate in learning rather than use workbooks that might be too small to see, for him. I want him to already feel confident with that kind of technology- and it turns out, even for a digital native like him, not being perfectly sighted makes the subtleties and delicate precision of iPad use….difficult.
Anyway, he found this song, so I started singing along, doing all the voices, dance moves and all. Former music teacher here, you see, so I happen to have a sickeningly smug encyclopaedic knowledge of lyrics and harmonies for thousands of songs from gazillions of genres that frequently cause my husband to raise his eyebrows in surprise and my eldest son to ask, ‘why does mummy sing every song on the radio?’
But Shiloh; beautiful, sunshiny child that he is, just replayed the clip and asked me to ‘copy’ it again - face full of wonder and delight and surprise. But here’s the amazing thing. After listening to it about 4 times, Shiloh also now knows most of the lyrics and sings them exactly in time and in tune.

This piece is all about quiet time, that feeling that the 5 of us entangled on our double bed and our own daydreams are adrift on a soft sea of songs, stories, whispers and snuggles. It’s about the joy of singing You’re Welcome with my sunshiny boy and it’s about getting to the beach early and realising we have the whole place to ourselves. Magic.

Artwork information

Fine art reproductions (prints) are printed on the very best archival cotton rag or archival stretched canvas as chosen by you by a small family firm in Brisbane. All of my cotton paper prints are inclusive of a 1cm white border and fit straight into standard frames or are easily custom-framed without losing any of the image, and the stretched canvas prints and originals can be put straight on the wall as they are ready to hang.

Our canvas prints come with a mirrored edge for a wrapped look or a plain edge if the background colour of the artwork is a block colour.

As with all new arrivals, we’d love to see you celebrate it properly. We suggest popping some champagne and taking a picture once it’s hanging on your wall.

We’d love to see your celebrations. You can tag us on Instagram @thenewdevine or send your snaps to us by replying to your order email.

Our favourite store-bought frames can be found on framing guide, and more framing information can be found on our FAQ page. Or, as with any question, please feel free to get in touch so we can help you perfect a room with your new art.

Shipping - We post on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Australian Standard Shipping is Free or you can choose express for $10. International flat rate shipping is $25. We post most orders on the following Tuesday or Friday, however there are some exceptions:

A1 and A0 artworks are printed to order as are all stretched canvas artworks. Please allow an extra 5-10 business days for printing in addition to standard Australia Post delivery estimates. We often have things ready MUCH sooner but sometimes, our printer is overwhelmed with our orders so please be patient if your new art takes a little longer to arrive. We promise it will be worth it.

Original Artworks: We very carefully varnish originals and pack them incredibly well once they are sold. Seamus is in charge of all of that and he’s meticulous - he used to work on gas rigs so when it comes to safety and attention to detail? He doesn’t compromise. It can sometimes take him a whole day to pack an original depending on the size with his unique system so you can imagine if we sell a couple of originals all at once he gets very busy! An extra couple of days for careful packing is absolutely worth it for a safe delivery of your art, though. Expect a week or so between ordering your original and it being posted. I promise it will be worth it.

Copyright and reproductions

Purchase of any The New Devine original artwork or art product (including reproductions) does not entitle the purchaser to make further copies—the copyright remains with the artist.

Framing

Please note all prints are sold unframed.

Images above are examples only and have been included to give you a squiz at how beautiful the work looks when framed.

We produce our prints to fit standard store-bought frames but we do recommend professional framing to improve the longevity and quality of your piece.
