This piece is based on all the flowers currently blooming in my garden.

The other night I sat in the arrivals hall of the international airport. I was one of the first to arrive so I sat at the front and set about completing the work I had brought with me. Over the next half hour the hall filled. Hushed, excited chatter in the row behind me, one lady sitting quietly and smiling to herself, the lady next to me on FaceTime, phone pointed at the sliding doors in anticipation. One couple stood at the rail and held a hand-painted, colourful ‘welcome’ sign between them that flapped and danced like a flag with the invisible breeze of their excitement. Chauffeurs started to congregate with names on signs, affable, familiar banter and the occasional raucous laugh. In 45 minutes it had turned from a quiet, echoing space remarkable only because of its vast blandness to a party atmosphere with joy and effervescent anticipation so thick in the air I felt I could hardly breathe - the collective amount of ‘I-can’t-wait-ness’ weighing heavily on my whole body a million times more pressing than the thick humidity outside.

Then suddenly the first person came through the doors, bags in hand and obligatory pleasantly puzzled expression as cheers went up and people were running and hugging and waving and our collective hearts skipped a beat as we watched on, knowing our turn to feel that precious uniting was coming soon.

…then my people arrived. My brother and sister in law. My best friends. People I cherish and know inside out and upside down and backwards. People who taught me I was capable of such a love as this - I didn’t think it could be possible to love your in-laws. Not really. Not like our near-decade of deep, abiding, steadfast friendship has shown me.

So it was my turn to leap up and go running as they laughed, watching me skip in their direction and throw myself at them as other people laughed and cheered and reunited and smiled and hugged and wept with joy.

This original artwork is all about that arrival hall feeling. That Christmas anticipation feeling when you know something amazing is about to happen. The arrival of joy.

This colourful, vibrant abstract painting from celebrated Australian artist Claire Devine is just the festive refresh your home needs. It is a bold and unapologetically optimistic contemporary artwork for choosers of joy.

Artwork information

Fine art reproductions (prints) are printed on the very best archival cotton rag or archival stretched canvas as chosen by you by a small family firm in Brisbane. All of my cotton paper prints are inclusive of a 1cm white border and fit straight into standard frames or are easily custom-framed without losing any of the image, and the stretched canvas prints and originals can be put straight on the wall as they are ready to hang.

Our canvas prints come with a mirrored edge for a wrapped look or a plain edge if the background colour of the artwork is a block colour.

As with all new arrivals, we’d love to see you celebrate it properly. We suggest popping some champagne and taking a picture once it’s hanging on your wall.

We’d love to see your celebrations. You can tag us on Instagram @thenewdevine or send your snaps to us by replying to your order email.

Our favourite store-bought frames can be found on framing guide, and more framing information can be found on our FAQ page. Or, as with any question, please feel free to get in touch so we can help you perfect a room with your new art.

Shipping - We post on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Australian Standard Shipping is Free or you can choose express for $10. International flat rate shipping is $25. We post most orders on the following Tuesday or Friday, however there are some exceptions:

A1 and A0 artworks are printed to order as are all stretched canvas artworks. Please allow an extra 5-10 business days for printing in addition to standard Australia Post delivery estimates. We often have things ready MUCH sooner but sometimes, our printer is overwhelmed with our orders so please be patient if your new art takes a little longer to arrive. We promise it will be worth it.

Original Artworks: We very carefully varnish originals and pack them incredibly well once they are sold. Seamus is in charge of all of that and he’s meticulous - he used to work on gas rigs so when it comes to safety and attention to detail? He doesn’t compromise. It can sometimes take him a whole day to pack an original depending on the size with his unique system so you can imagine if we sell a couple of originals all at once he gets very busy! An extra couple of days for careful packing is absolutely worth it for a safe delivery of your art, though. Expect a week or so between ordering your original and it being posted. I promise it will be worth it.

Copyright and reproductions

Purchase of any The New Devine original artwork or art product (including reproductions) does not entitle the purchaser to make further copies—the copyright remains with the artist.

Framing

Please note all prints are sold unframed.

Images above are examples only and have been included to give you a squiz at how beautiful the work looks when framed.

We produce our prints to fit standard store-bought frames but we do recommend professional framing to improve the longevity and quality of your piece.
