80x105cm (canvas size 76x101cm) Mixed media on premium, deep edge gallery canvas. Custom float framed in beautiful natural timber.

Every morning my sons run out to our mulberry tree with buckets usually reserved for beach trips in hand. An hour or so later we return home with mulberry juice-stained fingers and joy-stained hearts. We wash our hands together and giggle at ourselves. Leaves in our hair, purple stains on our clothes, flushed faces from the sun and from scaling tree branches, ladders and the outside edges of the trampoline net to reach every ripe fruit we can. Some days we deliver bowls to our neighbours, others we eat them all ourselves within half an hour. Today I made jam with some of our harvest. We weren’t here for mulberry season last year - this house wasn’t yet ours and my husband and I (having only ever heard rumours of the magic of mulberry season from my parents and having never inherited a mature mulberry tree ourselves) didn’t realise just quite how magical these moments with our children would be. Ephemeral, effervescent…but the thing about mulberries is that they don’t keep. They have to be enjoyed that day because once picked…well they just don’t last. I’m so struck by wonder and awe by that…because more than the mulberry hunts I love with my children? I feel like the mulberry tree is my own personal equivalent to Moses’s burning bush. A stark reminder that there is now and only now to enjoy my children today, the turning season, the flourishing spring flowers that have erupted in the garden despite my neglect, the lengthening days and the way the sea smells in the morning as the salty air (still cool before dawn) tears at my skin and hair as I walk to yoga. The mulberries are a reminder that now doesn’t last - we might as well turn to joy. That’s what this piece is about.

This colourful, vibrant abstract floral painting from celebrated Australian artist Claire Devine is just the spring refresh your home needs. It is a bold and unapologetically optimistic contemporary artwork for choosers of joy.

Artwork information

Fine art reproductions (prints) are printed on the very best archival cotton rag or archival stretched canvas as chosen by you by a small family firm in Brisbane. All of my cotton paper prints are inclusive of a 1cm white border and fit straight into standard frames or are easily custom-framed without losing any of the image, and the stretched canvas prints and originals can be put straight on the wall as they are ready to hang.

Our canvas prints come with a mirrored edge for a wrapped look or a plain edge if the background colour of the artwork is a block colour.

As with all new arrivals, we’d love to see you celebrate it properly. We suggest popping some champagne and taking a picture once it’s hanging on your wall.

We’d love to see your celebrations. You can tag us on Instagram @thenewdevine or send your snaps to us by replying to your order email.

Our favourite store-bought frames can be found on framing guide, and more framing information can be found on our FAQ page. Or, as with any question, please feel free to get in touch so we can help you perfect a room with your new art.

Shipping - We post on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Australian Standard Shipping is Free or you can choose express for $10. International flat rate shipping is $25. We post most orders on the following Tuesday or Friday, however there are some exceptions:

A1 and A0 artworks are printed to order as are all stretched canvas artworks. Please allow an extra 5-10 business days for printing in addition to standard Australia Post delivery estimates. We often have things ready MUCH sooner but sometimes, our printer is overwhelmed with our orders so please be patient if your new art takes a little longer to arrive. We promise it will be worth it.

Original Artworks: We very carefully varnish originals and pack them incredibly well once they are sold. Seamus is in charge of all of that and he’s meticulous - he used to work on gas rigs so when it comes to safety and attention to detail? He doesn’t compromise. It can sometimes take him a whole day to pack an original depending on the size with his unique system so you can imagine if we sell a couple of originals all at once he gets very busy! An extra couple of days for careful packing is absolutely worth it for a safe delivery of your art, though. Expect a week or so between ordering your original and it being posted. I promise it will be worth it.

Copyright and reproductions

Purchase of any The New Devine original artwork or art product (including reproductions) does not entitle the purchaser to make further copies—the copyright remains with the artist.

Framing

Please note all prints are sold unframed.

Images above are examples only and have been included to give you a squiz at how beautiful the work looks when framed.

We produce our prints to fit standard store-bought frames but we do recommend professional framing to improve the longevity and quality of your piece.
