Twenty five women, spanning generations, gathered in a gentle chorus of colour and laughter, simply delighted to be present together.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe host family, a constellation of what feels like 203847420 radiant girls, folded me into their world with such effortless warmth that I felt like I had been part of their story forever. Their kindness was the kind that settles into your bones.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eLater that night, I found myself speaking with a woman named Margaret, who carried echoes of my own beloved aunt Margaret, gone earlier this year. Though they were different in every obvious way, something in her cadence, the turn of her phrases, the way she named truths in my life she could not possibly have known, stopped me mid sentence and has stayed with me ever since. I still lie awake some nights, staring at the ceiling in awe and gratitude, replaying the grace of that moment.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWhatever you wonder about what comes after this life, I am so certain, so joyfully and quietly certain, that it is full of far more goodness than we have ever dared hope for.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e“Of Us” is not quite finished yet, but it already feels like a living bouquet of friendship, a celebration of kindredness, of the soft strength of women who show up for one another, of our past selves, present selves, and future hopes all blooming together.
