80x105cm (canvas size 76x101cm) Mixed media on premium, deep edge gallery canvas. Custom float framed in beautiful natural timber.

It has been nearly a year since we moved into the beach shack studio cottage. In the predawn hours I walk down the street from our house in my pyjamas and get changed at the studio for my morning yoga class. I boil the noisy second-hand kettle that looks like a space ship from the nineties and admire the bougainvillea that threatens to engulf not just the withered fence but half the cottage as well. It doesn’t seem to notice the sharp sea breeze with the turning season at that dawn hour nor does it mind the salty air that tugs at its blooms. It blooms regardless. It is just one of the many intrepid, hardy, optimistic flowering trees that thrive in the gardens as I walk the starlit streets to yoga. Hibiscus, banksias, pincushion hakeas, lillies and funny orchid-looking things all dance a happy wave as I walk. Jasmine and mock orange join the chorus with cloying blooms as I turn away from the sea and the sun extinguishes the fairy lights in the sky that sparkled so brightly just moments before. On my way home an hour later dawn has turned from vaguely inevitable to enviably vibrant - the sea multiplying and magnifying the orange and salmon sunrise so that the whole world is briefly a golden colour and the figures that walk the beach look like characters from Avatar (that is, if Avatar characters had been luminescent orange instead of blue.) For brief moments as the last of night magic dissipates the dawn magic makes everyone glow with a whole-body halo. It’s something I’ve only ever witnessed in this little beach town where we now live.

Astrid. A tribute to those magic morning hushed walks but also one of the kindest women and most wonderful mothers I’ve ever met. Astrid was the mother of one of my best percussion students back when I was a teacher. Alexander. He was born early (like our boys) and had more than his share of challenges (like our boys) but was gentle, kind, immensely bright and altogether a delight - much like his parents. We named our eldest, Sacha, after him and with no hesitation, on hearing we were in hospital with a very premature baby, Astrid flew in to gear and dropped over a heap of beautiful baby outfits in tiny tiny sizes we hadn’t thought we would need and said prayers for us from a place of experience. As it happens,  all three of our boys would get ample wear out of those tiny baby clothes and I’m sure her prayers sustained us. I frequently think of Astrid on those early morning walks because of her unexpected kindness at such a frightening time - light and joy pouring in from the darkness like the dawn over the beach. She’s possibly forgotten what she did now - but I will remember her kindness forever.

Artwork information

Fine art reproductions (prints) are printed on the very best archival cotton rag or archival stretched canvas as chosen by you by a small family firm in Brisbane. All of my cotton paper prints are inclusive of a 1cm white border and fit straight into standard frames or are easily custom-framed without losing any of the image, and the stretched canvas prints and originals can be put straight on the wall as they are ready to hang.

Our canvas prints come with a mirrored edge for a wrapped look or a plain edge if the background colour of the artwork is a block colour.

As with all new arrivals, we’d love to see you celebrate it properly. We suggest popping some champagne and taking a picture once it’s hanging on your wall.

We’d love to see your celebrations. You can tag us on Instagram @thenewdevine or send your snaps to us by replying to your order email.

Our favourite store-bought frames can be found on framing guide, and more framing information can be found on our FAQ page. Or, as with any question, please feel free to get in touch so we can help you perfect a room with your new art.

Shipping - We post on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Australian Standard Shipping is Free or you can choose express for $10. International flat rate shipping is $25. We post most orders on the following Tuesday or Friday, however there are some exceptions:

A1 and A0 artworks are printed to order as are all stretched canvas artworks. Please allow an extra 5-10 business days for printing in addition to standard Australia Post delivery estimates. We often have things ready MUCH sooner but sometimes, our printer is overwhelmed with our orders so please be patient if your new art takes a little longer to arrive. We promise it will be worth it.

Original Artworks: We very carefully varnish originals and pack them incredibly well once they are sold. Seamus is in charge of all of that and he’s meticulous - he used to work on gas rigs so when it comes to safety and attention to detail? He doesn’t compromise. It can sometimes take him a whole day to pack an original depending on the size with his unique system so you can imagine if we sell a couple of originals all at once he gets very busy! An extra couple of days for careful packing is absolutely worth it for a safe delivery of your art, though. Expect a week or so between ordering your original and it being posted. I promise it will be worth it.

Copyright and reproductions

Purchase of any The New Devine original artwork or art product (including reproductions) does not entitle the purchaser to make further copies—the copyright remains with the artist.

Framing

Please note all prints are sold unframed.

Images above are examples only and have been included to give you a squiz at how beautiful the work looks when framed.

We produce our prints to fit standard store-bought frames but we do recommend professional framing to improve the longevity and quality of your piece.
