I have a beautiful friend, I call her Bubbles (I can’t remember how that came about except I seem to remember we used to smuggle little bottles of bubbles into class in grade 10 and blow them when the teacher wasn’t looking) anyway - we have been friends since we were 12. So, 18 years - more than half our lives. This beautiful woman got married the other day - she eloped with a fantastic man - tall, dark and handsome and by all accounts ‘has his life together’ (an increasingly rare trait in people our age in the dating pool, so I hear.) Bubbles came from a huge property in Gindie - just south of Emerald in outback Queensland. I frequently find it amusing that her father was a farmer and I frequently heard how tough it was...yet now I’ve married a farmer, myself. We’ve been through some laugh-out-loud times together - including taking it in turns to nurse each other after having our wisdom teeth out a week apart and going for too many Maccas runs after school in grade 12 when we probably should have been studying. We were both musos and performed together more times than I can count. Oh yeah - then there was that time we went together with my step brother to our formal and ditched the post to all hang out at home to Foxtel and chill (because 2008.) Formal updo hair and Winnie the Pooh flanelette pjs is where it’s at, btw. Actually, Bubbles used to have a draw of spare clothes in my room because we were so inseparable. She is the ultimate kind, generous, hear-you-out type. So since we’re turning 30 and since she just got married I thought I should paint two matchy-but-not pieces for her. Her home place - Gindie and my favourite kind of rose - the Christa Rose - because it is named after her.
