After years of naming pieces for other people’s children it’s lovely to be in a place where I love works enough to name them for my own boys. Shiloh is inspired by our second son who is legally blind. I’ve always hoped to paint the world as I see it in bold colour and texture for him - to share a glimpse of views and vistas too far for his eyes whilst he shows me a world more precious and magical than I could have ever imagined with his overwhelming enthusiasm and passion for music, movement and love.

Easter skies. There was one Easter as a child when I arrived late to New Caledonia, flying unaccompanied as usual, and my uncle collected me from the airport. Strange that my father was absent. We went to my grandmother’s where we drank milo with Sunshine powdered milk in French bowls instead of cups (as is usual over there) and my grandfather let me have the heel of the day’s baguette (bread is sacred so this was a particularly generous gesture.) I was bundled off to bed in the room beside my grandparents with the marionettes dangling from the door handle that clattered a happy hello whenever the door was opened and the blue/lilac shutters that opened out onto the purple flowers that only bloomed at Easter…and early in the morning my uncle (who had slept on the giant brown leather sofa that I always refused to sit on lest it swallow me whole - i’d seen that happen once on TV) shook me gently and helped me pack a backpack and took me to the little regional airport where we…got into a helicopter. The Easter pacific skies were utterly enchanting as we glided over sun-rising seas and finally arrived at an outlying island that had previously housed a luxury resort (since abandoned) and the words ‘Bienvenue Claire!’ had been traced in the dirt on the flat square of rocky red mountain that served as a helipad. On landing, my cousins and all their friends clambered into the 3 man chopper and pressed most of the buttons before we were shooed out for an island-wide Easter egg hunt along with tens of other children who had made their way to this little forsaken place for Easter. My friends and family had sailed in days before but my uncle had stayed back (even though he loves the sea more than anything) to fly across with me so I didn’t miss the festivities. In France (and French islands in the pacific!) the church bells ring out the Easter eggs so we listened keenly for the tolls dimly heard in the distance from a 100-year-old mission bell some kind adult had found a way to ring (probably for the first time in at least 50 of those years!) and we had enough chocolate that we melted it to make a spread for our toast every morning for a week on the boat. It’s hard to imagine that those children clamouring, clambering and causing chaos in that chopper cockpit and now adults with so very many children between us.

Artwork information

Fine art reproductions (prints) are printed on the very best archival cotton rag or archival stretched canvas as chosen by you by a small family firm in Brisbane. All of my cotton paper prints are inclusive of a 1cm white border and fit straight into standard frames or are easily custom-framed without losing any of the image, and the stretched canvas prints and originals can be put straight on the wall as they are ready to hang.

Our canvas prints come with a mirrored edge for a wrapped look or a plain edge if the background colour of the artwork is a block colour.

As with all new arrivals, we’d love to see you celebrate it properly. We suggest popping some champagne and taking a picture once it’s hanging on your wall.

We’d love to see your celebrations. You can tag us on Instagram @thenewdevine or send your snaps to us by replying to your order email.

Our favourite store-bought frames can be found on framing guide, and more framing information can be found on our FAQ page. Or, as with any question, please feel free to get in touch so we can help you perfect a room with your new art.

Shipping - We post on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Australian Standard Shipping is Free or you can choose express for $10. International flat rate shipping is $25. We post most orders on the following Tuesday or Friday, however there are some exceptions:

A1 and A0 artworks are printed to order as are all stretched canvas artworks. Please allow an extra 5-10 business days for printing in addition to standard Australia Post delivery estimates. We often have things ready MUCH sooner but sometimes, our printer is overwhelmed with our orders so please be patient if your new art takes a little longer to arrive. We promise it will be worth it.

Original Artworks: We very carefully varnish originals and pack them incredibly well once they are sold. Seamus is in charge of all of that and he’s meticulous - he used to work on gas rigs so when it comes to safety and attention to detail? He doesn’t compromise. It can sometimes take him a whole day to pack an original depending on the size with his unique system so you can imagine if we sell a couple of originals all at once he gets very busy! An extra couple of days for careful packing is absolutely worth it for a safe delivery of your art, though. Expect a week or so between ordering your original and it being posted. I promise it will be worth it.

Copyright and reproductions

Purchase of any The New Devine original artwork or art product (including reproductions) does not entitle the purchaser to make further copies—the copyright remains with the artist.

Framing

Please note all prints are sold unframed.

Images above are examples only and have been included to give you a squiz at how beautiful the work looks when framed.

We produce our prints to fit standard store-bought frames but we do recommend professional framing to improve the longevity and quality of your piece.
